Region I Committee Meeting Minutes

  1. Newsletter

Jennifer requested that any information that they want included in the newsletter be sent to her by September 8th. 

  1. J.O. Report- Dan Witenstein

Coach of the Year- Justin Howell was previously voted the Region 1 coach of the year.  Jennifer will order a plaque.  There were discussions about how to select the coach of the year in future years.  No decision was made.

Camp Financials were reviewed.  The 2008 Camp final financial is attached.

We will be providing a camp t-shirt or leotard for all of the attendees.

There was discussion about having clinicians from other states, so that there are no lead clinicians from the state that the camp is in.  While it will be more expensive due to travel expenses, we may have a larger turn out of clubs represented.

Dan has appointed Shane McIntyre as the JO Camp Coordinator.

Jennifer will create a list of all clubs that attended the 2008 camps.  Dan has asked that all State Chairs publish that list so that there is no confusion at Regionals as to who has to buy the apparel.  The list is attached.

The dates for the 2009 camps were selected.
June 27-28 Nor-Cal
July 11-12 So-Cal
October 10-11 Las Vegas

If you anyone is interested in having the camps in their gym, they must contact Jennifer Krause or complete the “bid form” that is available on the website. 

  1. Elite/TOPS Report- Jack

There will be a TOPS, Pre-Elite and Hopes Clinic at SCEGA on December 13-14.

Jack reported that there will be a Regional qualifier at the Spirit of the Flame meet in Santa Clara, CA.

  1. WTC Report- Neela

Neela reported that Pam Evans is now a member of the Regional Technical Committee.

Neela reported on the upcoming Judges Clinic in Arizona to be held along with the JO Camp in Arizona. 

  1. RACC Report

Beam Warm Up-  Jennifer informed the board that the beam warm up being used in Region 1 is not an official warm up process.  It has been suggested that the coaches in Region 1 propose the warm up and send support letters to Dan, Neela and Tom Koll.  The board asked that Jennifer draft a letter on behalf of the board.

2009 Region 1 Congress location-  There was discussion about moving congress around throughout the region.  We discussed the pros and cons.  It was decided by the board that we would commit to Santa Clara for 2 years.  It will be revisited in 2010. 

  1. Regional Meets

We received the following bids for the host of Level 8-10 Regional Championships:

Go For It

Technique Gymnastics

All three bids received were great bids.  We had the clubs bidding do a short presentation of their bids and answer questions.  The board selected Technique Gymnastics as the host of 2009 Regionals. 

  1. Assigning of Regional/Western/National Meets

The board assigned the meets utilizing information gathered by NAWGJ, SACC’s and the RTCC.  The assignments are available on the Region 1 Website.

IX.  Other Business:  Prep-Optional was discussed.  Cassie Rice from GymCats has created Prep-Optional rules to be utilized in Region 1.  It was suggested that each state have a Prep-Optional representative.
